Description
Bulk dried herb, acts as immune booster, helps to fight infections, colds & flu. Boosts white blood cell production. Natural anti-histamine.
Echinacea has ten species, which are commonly called coneflowers. They grow naturally only in eastern and central North America, where they grow in moist to dry prairies and open wooded areas. They have large, showy heads of composite flowers, blooming in summer.
Echinacea was widely used by the North American indigenous people as traditional medication. Its modern use for the common cold began when a Swiss herbal supplement maker was told that Echinacea was used for cold prevention by Native american tribes who lived in the area of South Dakota. For a time, echinacea enjoyed official status as a result of being listed in the US National Formulary from 1916-1950. However, use of echinacea fell out of favour in the United States with the discovery of antibiotics. But now, because some antibiotics don’t work as well as they used to against certain bacteria, people are becoming interested in echinacea again.
Today, people use echinacea to shorten the duration of the common cold and flu, and reduce symptoms, such as sore throat, cough, and fever. Many herbalists are known to recommend echinacea to help boost the immune system and help the body fight infections.
