Description

Herbal Tea for Heart Health. Strengthens the heart and encourages a regular heart-beat (treats rapid or irregular heart-beat). Tonic for a weak heart. Lowers blood pressure. Improves the flow of blood to the heart. Prevention treatment against atherosclerosis. Strengthens veins and capillaries. Calms nervous palpitations and arrythmias. May assist with anaemia.

Dosage:

1 teaspoon of dried herb infused into a cup of hot water. Strain and drink. Sweet with honey to taste if required. Repeat as required. Take at night as may cause drowsiness.

Cautions:

  • Do not use if you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients – if allergic reaction occurs discontinue use.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Hawthorn is a long-term preventative remedy.
  • Do not attempt to treat any form of heart disease without consulting a doctor. Do not exceed recommended dose.
  • Hawthorn in large doses can cause low blood pressure, dizziness and fainting. It is also reported to cause nausea, fatigue, sweating and a rash on hands.
  • Large amounts of hawthorn may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving when taking this tea.
  • Gingko in large doses can cause stomach upsets and dizziness.
  • Do not give to children under 16 years of age.
  • Avoid if taking anticoagulants (blood-thinning agents e.g. warfarin, aspirin), or you have a bleeding disorder, as many of the ingredients already have an anticoagulant effect and could cause excessive bleeding if used in combination.
  • Do not use if you have low blood pressure.
  • Avoid if you have any form of liver disease.
  • Do not consume alcohol while taking this tea.
  • Do not take at the same time as other medications that have a sedative effect. This includes antidepressants, benzodiazepines, anticonvulsants, St Johns Wort or narcotics.
  • Do not drive, or engage in any activity where lack of concentration could be dangerous, for up to two hours after ingesting.
  • Overdose may cause headaches, nausea, palpitations, blurred vision and restlessness.
  • Possible side effects of valerian include headaches, excitability, stomach upset, uneasiness, low body temperature, reduced concentration and morning drowsiness.
  • Insomnia may occur with continuous long-term use of more than 2-4 months, so don’t use this tea continuously for more than 6 weeks without breaks.
  • Avoid lemon balm if taking thyroid medication.
  • Do not take in conjunction with monoamine oxidase inhibiting antidepressants (MAOIs).
  • Do not take if you are diabetic, or are hypoglycaemic (have low blood sugar).
  • May cause photo-sensitivity.
  • Use with caution if you are allergic to members of the Ericacae family (blueberries, huckleberries).
  • Keep out of reach of children.
